If I have a Wicked Stepmother, Where's My Prince?
For
Ages 13-18

Books You Can Use
If I have a Wicked Stepmother, Where's My Prince?
by Melissa Kantor
This witty novel by second-time author Melissa Kantor sees life through the eyes of Lucy, a teen stepdaughter who moves to the east cost from San Francisco after her dad's marriage. With her father often far away on another coast with his job, Lucy navigates the hazards of twin 12 year-old stepsisters, dueling romances, a new school and a stepmother she can't relate to. Lucy's love for artwork helps her survive the social minefield of high school on Long Island, and she dates a heart-throb “prince” who doesn't really know her. Teen angst melds with this Cinderella story of clashing cultures for a modern-day update. She finds out that Prince Charming may not come on the most popular horse, that her new friends have more staying power than she thought, and her stepmom and stepsisters are not all bad. Teens will find Lucy's story interesting and see echoes of their lives today. The book includes references to teen drinking and drug use, an unfortunate reality at many teen parties today. This is Kantor's second novel.

The Not So Wicked Stepmother

The Not So Wicked Stepmother

by Leslie Allgood Venable
For ages 4-8. Sisters Maria and Olivia cope with the divorce of their parents and their dad moving out. Maria and Olivia must deal with all the strains that come with Dad moving out - adjusting to a visitation schedule, being split between two houses, learning how to sleep in a new place, and watching their dad start to date. When Dad announces that he is getting married again, the girls worry that his new wife will be like the wicked stepmother in the fairy tale Cinderella. They find out that their new stepmom is not evil. If you are divorced and getting ready to date, this is a great book to read with your children.

Chelsea's Tree

Books You Can Use
Chelsea's Tree
by Marcy McCann
Through the story of Chelsea and her family tree, this interactive and fun little book helps children visualize how many people are part of their families and care for them. This can be especially helpful for children in blended families who have a wide assortment of relatives and step-relatives involved in their lives, and the book can help them acknowledge all of these special people. The book includes original illustrations and looks like a small photo album. It can hold 4" x 6" photos. Photos, drawings, and small treasures can be added to the book's blank pages by the child. These pages are meant to be interacted with, written on, and treasured! Appropriate for children under age 10.
